Temple of Antinous is the modern revival of the ancient faith dedicated to the restoration of the ancient religion of Antinous, the deified lover of Emperor Hadrian, who was deified after his death in 130 CE. We are devoted to Antinous as a god of beauty, love, self-realization, and gay sacredness.
Antinous was a young Greek man born in 130 CE in Asia Minor who became the lover of Emperor Hadrian. Together they traveled the Eastern provinces of the Roman Empire and in Egypt, Antinous drowned in the Nile and was deified. Hadrian founded a new religion dedicated to Antinous, with temples, statues, an ordained priesthood, mystery initiations, sacred games, and a new city named after him.
The ancient religion of Antinous endured for over 300 years until it was finally destroyed at the end of the Roman period, but the deification of Antinous was not forgotten. In 2002, Temple of Antinous was founded as the new religion of Antinous based on LGBTQ+ spirituality, based in Hollywood California with other temple chapters in the US and the world.

We are a polytheistic pagan religion primarily focused on the veneration
of Antinous the gay god as one of the Olympian gods of Rome and Greece
and also in his Egyptian form and other aspects. Our spiritual philosophy
is known as Homotheosis, which is a path of self-transformation that
leads us to understanding and union with Antinous and the gods. We gather
regularly for devotional ceremonies and spiritual growth as a community
of Antinous believers. While our faith is rooted in gay spirituality,
we are open to any person regardless of gender, race, nationality, belief,
or sexual identification. Anyone who believes in Antinous is welcome
to become a member of Temple of Antinous and may receive the initiation
rites.
Temple of Antinous is a 501(c)(3) non-profit religious organization recognized in the United States since August 2025, which is the first time in over 1,600 years, since the dissolution of our ancient religion, that a national government has officially acknowledged the re-institution
